We took our fit & forget technology on the road on Friday to attend the Festival of Engineering at Xtrac.
Hosted by Richard Benyon MP (West Berkshire) and Kit Malthouse MP (North-West Hampshire) the event was to celebrate and support the Government’s Year of Engineering giving our future workforce a taste of exciting careers in engineering prior to them making their GCSE choices next year. Kit Malthouse, MP, said, “We need our Science, Technology and Engineering industries to thrive if our economy is to truly succeed in the years ahead”.
We were joined by 17 other businesses who all demonstrated hands-on activities about their own industries. Over the course of the day, 400 students, aged 12- 14, from West Berkshire and North Hampshire attended. We were particularly pleased to host pupils from local Andover schools Winton Community Academy andJohn Hanson Community School.
As you can see from the photos, we had a great time using a hands-on process to illustrate some principles behind the fit & forget technologies used to manufacture our pressure moulded cable harnesses. This had the students making their own moulds with modelling clay and materials amalgamation was demonstrated using molten wax once cooled these were submerged to prove the sealing technique.
We were happy to answer lots of insightful questions about how our products are used on submarines, the materials and technologies involved.
Hopefully, we have inspired some future engineers!
