Volunteers’ Week at SMI
Volunteers’ Week is a chance to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. It takes place on 1-7 June every year and is an opportunity to celebrate volunteering in all its diversity.
During the week, hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country, saying thank you to volunteers and recognising their invaluable and diverse contribution to the UK.
At Scientific Management International we have some amazing volunteers amongst our team. Zoe McClorey, our Finance Officer (seen above left) has volunteered in youth football for 21 years. Initially managing a team of young players for 11 years, the life-long Southampton FC fan is now the Testway Youth League coordinator for U15’s through to U-18’s.
Events set up by parkrun UK take place at over 500 locations across the UK every Saturday morning and participants are invited to run or walk their local 5km course. They are set up by volunteers and are suitable for people of all ages and abilities. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
Our General Manager Sales & Marketing, Jenny Shaw (seen above, middle image), is the first to admit she is no runner but she has been walking the events regularly and recently celebrated her 25th volunteering stint at the weekly event.
Many of our staff have been involved with Scouting and Guiding over the years and in France, our Business Development Manager, Michel Renard (seen above), has, for the last six years been the volunteer treasurer for a Scout Group serving 105 young people locally.
Head of People at SMI, Catherine Jennings said “The benefits of volunteering are well documented and on top of helping individuals, groups and charities, volunteers can gain confidence, really make a difference, meet new people, learn new skills and push themselves to take on a challenge. That’s why we are pleased to celebrate all the volunteers here at SMI and in our local Andover community this week. “
