Responsibilities

Scientific Management International designs, manufactures, supplies, and installs bespoke pressure moulded cable harness systems, through-hull penetrators and pressure moulded connectors to a wide variety of industries operating in the most challenging and hostile environments on the planet.

Responsibilities:

Procurement Management

  • Support the annual Supply Chain business plan strategy and assist the implementation.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to raise and provide Vendor Quotations Requests & Purchase Orders.
  • Placement of purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, on time, to specification.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to agree prices, quantities, delivery schedules.
  • Develop new and existing relationships with key suppliers, support supplier visits and audits.
  • Anticipate, manage, and minimise the risks both operational and reputational to meet production plan at the optimum price, lead time and quality.
  • Act as a point of contact for both internal and external suppliers [both UK and overseas]. Liaise with suppliers to ensure order confirmation, expedition, and escalation of issues.
  • Produce, track, and deliver against monthly KPIs for procurement.
  • Support and develop process to manage the risk of obsolescence within procurement for goods and services. Review commercial technology for components, environmental legislation such (RoHS) for substances, and economic impact of manufacturers going into liquidation.
  • Identify and recommend purchase tactics for price-breaks, efficiency, and value.
  • Ensure that SMI Terms and Conditions are adhered to by suppliers including Flow Down terms as appropriate.
  • Manage and develop Assistant Buyer to improve overall performance and achieve business plan.

Sustainability [ESG]

  • Embed sustainability into procurement, determine quantitative criteria on suppliers and sourcing.
  • Ensure that ESG is a dominant factor during selection. Monitor and report procurement ESG metrics.

Product Development

  • Support new development activities involving supplier and representatives as required.
  • Develop a working knowledge of technologies, process and are materials. Be aware of alternative suppliers and manufacturing processes that are available.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Support problem solving initiatives with suppliers & determine root cause for reliability issues.
  • Support supplier audits and follow up actions supporting wider team.
  • Liaise with suppliers on both quality and delivery issues, ensure score cards are sent and actioned by supplier.
  • Work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to develop selection and qualification process.

Skills and Experience

  • CIPS level 3 or above.
  • Experience of purchasing system and processes.
  • Hands on experience of using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Good knowledge of MS-Office with strong Excel skills
  • Purchasing for a manufacturing environment / ability to read technical drawings, bill of materials etc.
  • Developing and maintaining supplier relationships
  • Confident in managing both UK and overseas suppliers.
  • Negotiation skills to deliver best value through supply chain.
  • Working with uneven demand requiring quick reactions and feedback.
  • Strong influencing and motivational skills.
  • Drive staff development through quality feedback and mentoring.
