SMI Unveils Team that will Deliver Future Growth Plan

Keith Wells and Jenny Shaw from SMI

As Scientific Management International celebrates being the only company worldwide to hold 27 years’ continuous Ministry of Defence Capability Approval and 30 years of building “fit & forget” cable harness systems for hostile environments, we’re proud to announce a number of management changes to strengthen our expansion path.

Keith Wells moves to SMI Group to focus on Special Projects, working closely with Group Chairman Dr Martin Stillman-Jones. Denise Hunt becomes Group Operations Director.

Martin said

“I want to both congratulate and thank and Keith for 30 years’ service at Scientific Management International Ltd (SMI), most as CEO. I’m very happy to see him moving away from the day to day to focus on a number of special projects we have under way”.

He will remain available to Scientific Management International Ltd if needed.

Meanwhile, at SMI, Commercial Director Jenny Shaw is promoted to Chief Executive Officer Designate. Progressively from 1st July to the year end, Jenny will assume full operational responsibility. Her remit currently includes Marketing, Sales, Compliance & Engineering.

Jo Burke is promoted to UK Sales Manager based from Andover, joining Michel Renard, International Sales Manager based at the Paris office. SMI Canada, Australia & USA are unchanged.

Martin further added:

“I’m particularly pleased to announce Jenny’s appointment as CEO Designate. Since she joined the company as Business Development Manager 8 years ago, I’ve been able to watch first hand, her exceptional grasp of our complex business where I now look forward to even greater successes”.

Shaw served as Commercial Director of SMI from 2020, adding Marketing in 21 and Compliance in 22. Previously she was part of the Business Development Team before promotion to Sales Director.

Prior to joining SMI, she held a variety of management positions across the interconnect industry in both SMEs and global multinationals. An accomplished engineer, fibre optic specialist and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, her interconnect career has spanned semiconductors, telecoms, oil & gas before focussing on defence and renewable energy. She is also a passionate advocate of women in STEM careers, championing SMI’s commitment to the Women in Defence Charter.

Shaw said she was honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the business:

“During my time on the board, I’ve been hugely impressed by the SMI team, its technical & engineering expertise, current portfolio of projects and strong order book. It has a compelling vision to transform cable system reliability in mission critical applications and to grow safely and sustainably, while always caring for its people. The board has set exciting ambitions for the next few years and I’m confident we have the people and experience to achieve those goals, while continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the most hostile of application environments.”
