We are delighted to announce that Keith Wells CEng FIMechE, Group CEO at SMI, has been elected to the board of the West of England Aerospace Forum (WEAF), a membership trade organisation that represents the aerospace and defence industry in the South West of England, UK.

WEAF’s chairman and existing board members, together with its CEO, recognised that extending the skills and experience available on its board would ensure the organisation continues to deliver value to its membership and help to support its own commercial independence. In Keith, WEAF’s members recognised someone who operates at the required senior governance level and possesses specific skills the organisation needs to meet future challenges and opportunities.

Keith set the strategic direction of SMI, which is on target to deliver tenfold growth in 10 years, and has been a member of WEAF for over five years. He is a fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and a subject matter expert on cable infrastructure. Keith’s career includes roles at British Aerospace Dynamics Group and work on the Star Wars space defence programme. His engineering expertise has been utilised to develop motion simulators and aircraft optronics, as well as cabling solutions for landing gear.

WEAF is an enabler of excellence regionally, nationally and on the global stage. As one of the largest aerospace and defence associations in Europe, it is able to provide a strong voice for its members, as well as representation and access to prominent decision makers in industry and government. By providing support and new opportunities for its members, WEAF improves efficiency and effectiveness in the supply chain, and brings stakeholders together to create one cohesive community.
