Subsea Expo once again proved to be a fantastic event for the subsea industry and delivered one particularly proud moment for all at SMI.

The annual three-day showcase of the UK’s £8 billion underwater industry, also includes the prestigious Subsea Expo awards, in which SMI was honoured with the Company of the Year award. Organised by Global Underwater Hub, the event drew more than 6,000 visitors to Aberdeen’s P&J Live in February. The expo not only continued to affirm its success but also expanded its international reach with attendees representing over 60 countries. This year’s event featured exhibitions from more than 150 companies and organisations from various parts of the world, including Australia, Holland, and the United States.
The conference boasted a comprehensive program with 14 sessions and approximately 85 speakers, addressing major industry topics such as marine renewables, data and digital technology, subsea production systems, and the advancement of robotics and autonomous operations.

Exhibitors and attendees engaged in substantial discussions, with many reporting significant interest and potential leads for their products and services. The event was free to attend and embraced the theme ‘Into the Blue’, highlighting the vast economic potential within sectors such as oil and gas, offshore renewables, and more.

Throughout the Subsea Expo, pivotal issues like energy security, the energy transition, and offshore wind were prominently discussed. There was also a focus on the security of underwater infrastructure, explored both during the sessions and on the exhibition floor. Additionally, the UK Government chose this venue to unveil its Global Upstream Decommissioning Export Strategy, a highly anticipated document that outlines future strategies for the industry based on two decades of North Sea experience. The Subsea Expo Awards capped off the event, where the industry’s vast contributions and successes were celebrated at a prestigious gala, drawing over 500 guests to recognise the efforts of individuals and organisations in oil and gas, offshore energy, and other critical sectors.
