SMI Support For Former Service Personnel

SMI are proud to be signatories to the Armed Forces Covenant, committed to supporting active service personnel and veterans who ensure the defence of the Nation.  As part of our commitment we actively look to recruit service leavers and their families through the Career Transition Partnership and Forces Families jobs.

Jack Clark joined SMI last year after a successful early career in the Army.  Working in the Army provided Jack with functional skills in maintenance, repair, mechanical engineering, production and inspection.  It also set him up with life skills such as working to deadlines, team work, high levels of organisational skills, resilience and attention to detail which are so valuable to any employer. Having joined us as a Production Technician in May last year, Jack quickly demonstrated a solid grasp of the manufacturing principles required in the role and established himself as an invaluable member of the team.   We were therefore delighted when he successfully applied for promotion to the role of Quality Inspector, less than 12 months into his career with us.

Jack has now embarked on a Level 4 Quality Practitioner apprenticeship to further develop the formal training he received as part of the Armed Forces and is already applying new skills and learning to his role.

Jack says of his time since joining SMI: “It’s been joyful.  It’s a great team and I’m really enjoying the apprenticeship.  I’m always looking to learn more and it’s been good to be given the opportunity at SMI”

Supporting our people with training, development and opportunities to progress is a fundamental part of our ethos and we are excited to see where Jack’s career with us takes him next.
