unassailable ‘fit & forget’ pressure moulded cable systems for hostile environments

PlastEthUrm for Combined Benefits

PlastEthUrm

The choice of cable jacket material informs the technology of a whole system. Historically this has meant a choice between Polyethene (PE) or Polyurethane (PU). While PE offers superior electrical insulation and unparalleled long term insulation resistance in sea water, thermoplastic PU (TPPU) is ideal for abrasion and wear resistance.

PlastEthUrm technology

SMI’s PlastEthUrm technology provides the advantages of both materials on cable performance.  PlastEthUrm mouldings combine the two jacket materials, PE as the inner jacket and TPPU as the outer jacket. Both jackets are separately terminated using thermoplastic pressure moulding processes where each different material amalgamates with its own jacket and chemically bonds to the connector or penetrator back shell. PlastEthUrm mouldings have been integrated into the Telemetrix portfolio of data and power infrastructure adopted by navies around the world and are the preferred solution for system designers wanting to extend platform life.

PlastEthUrm 10 year warranty

Combining the benefits of two cable jacket materials in a single PlastEthUrm moulding that separately seals and water blocks enables SMI to offer an industry leading 10 year warranty.
