Dr Martin Stillman-Jones FRS FRSA – Chairman
Martin has been with the business for over 15 years, taking responsibility for Business Strategy, Planning & Policy as well as the development of the Senior Team. With a PhD in Strategy, he is also a Chartered Engineer and has Masters Degrees in both Business Administration and Engineering.
Keith Wells – Chief Executive Officer
Keith Wells is a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and one of the founders of Scientific Management International more than 25 years ago. He is widely recognised as the UK’s leading subject matter expert on thermoplastic moulding for hostile environments and in particular subsea applications.
Keith has lead the development of robust and ground breaking products across various market sectors including Marine, Aerospace, Transport and from the very earliest days of Alternative Energy systems. Supported by a strong Senior Team plus highly skilled engineers and technicians he is recognised globally for driving new levels of product performance – uniquely backed by 10 year performance warranties.
Denise Hunt – Head of Programmes
Both a Board Director and Group Board Director, Denise has at one time or another, led most areas of factory operations and finance during more than 20 years at SMI. Her current focus is Programme Management of all major programmes from inception to delivery, bringing together activities from all stakeholders. Additionally, Denise leads SMI’s focus on legal and contractual compliance.
Glen Richardson – Head of Engineering, R&T
Glen is SMI’s Engineering Director with an impressive 25 year track record of bringing innovative fit and forget products successfully to market. Glen is currently utilising his teams expertise with vision to steward critical technology transfers and solutions development across marine, aerospace and transport in addition to the development of unique solutions in the off-shore energy market.
Jenny Shaw – Head of Commercial
Our Commercial Director, Jenny, has been at SMI for over 5 years and provides strategic leadership of the Marketing, Business Development and Delivery Teams, all busy migrating SMI technologies into business growth across our targeted sectors. A fibre optic specialist with 20 years’ experience in interconnect and cable infrastructure, most recently focussed on submarine applications, Jenny is responsible for SMI’s global commercial activity.
Catherine Jennings – Head of People, Security & Sustainability
Responsible for SMI’s people strategy in support of immediate and longer-term strategic people needs as we grow ten fold in ten years. Catherine provides comprehensive functional support across the business, developing, finding and training talent, measuring and tracking skills and engagement, identifying areas that require improvement and working across the team to our growth strategy.
Additionally, Catherine acts as Head of Sustainability defining and delivering our sustainability policies and procedures – and propagating our green credentials. Finally, Catherine oversees corporate responsibility for Security.
Claire Anderson – Head of Supply Chain
Claire leads improvement in all aspects of supply chain strategy through material control processes, inventory management, forecasting, vendor selection and performance management, contract negotiation and management, development of supply chain strategy and continuous improvement. Claire is also developing the MRP capability within the business to align with production planning and customer requirements.
Carl Evans – Head of Manufacturing
Carl manages our production facility and the Andover site, supervising all plant operations ensuring that the highest level of productivity, safety and quality are maintained at all times. He is focused on maintaining on-time-delivery, reducing lead times, maximising productivity and improving key metrics across quality, cost and safety.
Andrew Hackett – Head of Compliance
Andrew is responsible for SMI’s extensive Quality Management Systems & Environmental Management Systems – gatekeeper for our “fit and forget” product mantra, as well as leading on Health and Safety across the business. Working closely with Catherine, his companywide training delivers the tools/techniques required to support a lean culture, continuous improvement & effective processes whilst maintaining numerous quality, defence capability & customer accreditation approvals.
Nicholas Abbott – Financial Controller
Nicholas Abbott joined SMI in April 2020. He has 15 years accounting experience and has worked with a variety of companies from SMEs to FTSE250. He has worked in a number of different finance roles included Strategy development, M&A, Business Transformation, FP&A and Finance Business Partnering. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
