Making a world of difference for Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK

SMI have successfully completed the last stage of our ‘Circumnavigation’ Challenge, having now run, walked, cycled and swum a total of 25,905 miles, exceeding the target needed by 1,100 miles.

Our effort was all in support of Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK, a charity close to our hearts at SMI. We were able to hand over a donation of £2,187 to Angela Smith-Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK (pictured above with SMI Finance Director, Nick Abbott) when she visited SMI Headquarters in Andover.

To our great delight, our partners at at Simex Defence Inc in Canada joined us in the SMI Challenge. While we were travelling East to West across Canada, they travelled the other way from Halifax to Victoria, BC. The Simex team has walked, run, and cycled over 3,300 miles since May 2021.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare, genetically inherited neuromuscular condition. It causes progressive muscle weakness and loss of movement due to muscle wasting (atrophy).

Established for over 35 years, Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK are a charity providing accurate information and a wide range of support services, while working to improve access to the best care, services and drug treatments today and funding research projects that can change tomorrow.
