Peter Lock from SMI

With SMI colleague Andrew Hackett retiring this month, his Quality management responsibilities must necessarily transfer to a new pair of hands. We’re delighted to announce the promotion of Peter Lock to the position of Quality Manager. Peter has worked in Quality roles for over 25 years and has been a key member of Andrew’s team at SMI. The handover of our Quality function to Peter has been ongoing for some time and we are confident that our unblemished reputation for ‘fit and forget’ products will continue under his management.

Andrew joined us in 2017, since then he has developed our lean manufacturing and continuous improvement culture while maintaining numerous quality, defence capability and customer accreditation approvals. On behalf of everyone at SMI, we’d like to thank Andrew for all that he’s helped us achieve and wish him a very happy retirement.

SMI’s worldwide team created a year of significant company progress in 2021. It was our seventh consecutive year of growth thanks to a record number of contract awards from Primes and Tier 1 manufacturers across current and future marine defence platforms. In collaboration with our regional sales partner, SIMEX, a promising extension to our North American business was progressed at the DSEI defence exhibition in London. Over the year we also established further key partnerships in renewable energy, including in offshore wind, tidal and wave projects.

This year promises to be even more action-packed and successful for SMI. Our extended factory facility will become operational at the end of the month. The capabilities it will provide, combined with the availability of talented subject matter experts, such as Peter, in positions across the business will support the delivery of our growth pipeline.
