SMI Ltd (SMI) announced today that its manufacturing site in Andover, UK, has been certified to the environmental and quality management standard ISO 14001.

SMI has been operating an Environmental Management Plan for some years ahead of formalising the certification. Andrew Hackett, Head of Quality Assurance & Compliance, commented: “This ISO 14001 certification emphasizes our commitment to a smaller environmental footprint and safe working conditions”.

ISO 14001:2015 is the most updated standard of its kind and focuses on environmental management systems and performance. It assists companies in developing a management system that aligns business strategies and environmental objectives.

The Certification process provides the framework to help organizations minimise their environmental impact, reduce their carbon footprint, and exceed compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

SMI recently strengthened its commitment to sustainability and governance by naming Catherine Jennings as Head of Sustainability. In her extended role, Catherine (Pictured above with Andrew Hackett) will oversee the company’s corporate responsibility strategy and community initiatives.

Catherine’s remit will include ensuring that SMI continues to meet challenging sustainability targets including managing environmental concerns, utilisation of green energy and waste reduction.
