Unassailable Fit & Forget Pressure Moulded Cable Systems for Hostile Environments

Unprecedented 27 Years MOD Capability Approval Record

SMI (SMI) has achieved uninterrupted Ministry of Defence (MOD) Capability Approval for an unprecedented 27 years.

Capability Approvals enable the MOD and its supply chain to procure critical and specialist components with confidence, knowing that a range of stringent quality specifications will be consistently maintained.
SMI is the only company in the world which holds Capability Approval for the production of submarine pressure hull glands and polyethylene cable systems, a credential that has been reissued for a further three years.
The requirement to renew every three years ensures that the necessary expertise and competence is retained by the manufacturer. SMI’s Capability Approval extension seamlessly rolls on from its current period to 2024.
SMI’s range of pressure moulded thermoplastic cable systems create chemical bonds between cables and metals that form an indivisible seal capable of surviving hostile subsea conditions for decades.
Keith Wells, CEO at SMI, said, “We’ve been the preferred supplier for through-hull penetrators and connectors to the UK’s nuclear submarines for many years. During that time, we’ve supplied in excess of 10,000 installations with zero leaks. Our track record of supplying ‘fit and forget’ products to the Royal Navy is founded on our obsessive commitment to exceptional, cutting edge engineering and unassailable manufacturing capabilities.”
SMI is the world leader in the design and manufacture of pressure moulded cable harnesses for use in hostile environments. These form the central nervous system of critical naval platforms.

With headquarters in the UK and offices in France, Canada and Australia, SMI supplies customers in marine, energy, aerospace and transport sectors across the world.
